Inle Lake is the second largest lake in Myanmar but by far the most popular. The lake is 45 square miles of stunning clear waters which are surrounded by mountains and floating villages. We have a list of 5 great things to do around Inle Lake in 2 days just waiting for you.

5 Great Things To Do Around Inle Lake

1) Visit A Winery

Yes, you read that correctly. Inle Lake has a winery and it’s GOOD wine. Like for real.

Rent bicycles from your accommodation and pedal your way to Red Mountain Winery, located a few miles outside of the city center of Nyaungshwe.

Have a tasting…or three and chill for the day.

The winery is popular at sunset so make sure you get there with enough time in the day to nab a table.

2) Book A Inle Lake Boat Tour

This is a must in our opinion. You can’t visit Inle Lake and not get out on the water! A mortal sin if you ask us.

Organizing a boat tour is simple. Book directly with your accommodation and they’ll arrange it all.

You have the option to see what you want to see and what you don’t want to see on the water. Just communicate what you’d like to see to your boat driver the morning of of your trip.

Our day on the waters of Inle Lake looked liked this…

Dawn:

Plan to leave right at dawn to get the picture everyone wants which is the famous Intha Fisherman. It’s so impressive to see them work. It’s mind blowing how they balance with such skill in order to lure their fish for the day in their netted cages.

Morning:

After you’ve had your fill of amazing sunrise and the Intha Fisherman,  you’re zinged off to different floating villages and gardens that inhabit the waters of Inle Lake.

Make a stop at the below locations…

  • Silver Making Shop
  • Tobacco Shop
  • Lotus Weaving Shop
  • Wood Shop
  • Blacksmith Shop
  • Floating Market

Now, each shop you go to, you see how villagers make handcrafted items. The amount of time and effort that foes into making a silver bracelet or  weaving a scarf is amazing.

Each shop will walk you through the techniques and process that particular shop does to create these handcrafted masterpieces.

If you are looking for a great handmade souvenir, we suggest looking into purchasing something from one of these shops.

Afternoon:

Probably getting a little hungry by now. As your driver to stop for lunch at one of the restaurant on the water. For us, we stopped and ate at the floating Royal Palace restaurant to have our meal.

After lunch we made our way to Hpaung Daw U Pagoda to visit our final site of the day.

After sime time exploring the buddhist temple, we were back in our boat making our way back to Nyaungshwe.

For us, our boat tour ended around 2pm-ish.

3) Rent Bikes and Explore Nyaungshwe

The best way to get around and explore Nyaungshwe is by bike. The area is flat so it’s a nice, peaceful ride and a great way to kill some time in a beautiful place.

4) Grab a Bite To Eat At Inlaay Hut

If you come to Inle Lake and do not eat at Inlaay Hut, you our friend, have failed. Like big time.

If you don’t believe us, look it up on Trip Advisor. Every review is the bomb.

Plus, the owner Khumar, is a corky, Slim Shady loving (yes, you read that correctly), Nepali man that can cook some mean Indian dishes.

What you experience at Inlaay Hut is like a dinner and a movie, with Khumar being your dining entertainment. Oh, and the food – oh my god, the food! It’s SO GOOD.

So again, go here or you missed out big time.

5) Watch The Sunset

Head over to Ostello Bello for a little sunset drink on their rooftop. It’s a great way to socialize with other travelers over a cold Myanmar Beer as the sun fades over Nyaungshwe and Inle Lake.
